I think this quote is saying look past the materialistic things and give him things that only his heart may understand. Money is not everything, but love and affection just might be. If a father shows his son love and affection, then he will know how you feel about him.
I agree, because money and that nature isn't important if you don't have a father that care about you and teach you the thinks that you need to know.
